Bernadette and Jean Mars, born in 1922 and 1924 respectively, were the children of resistance fighter Édouard Mars, the founder of the Hector resistance network. Braving the dangers, they were recruited as liaison officers for their father’s network when they were just 20 and 18 years old. All three were arrested on 27 August 1942. Only Édouard returned from the camps, while his two children died in Ravensbrück (Bernadette) and Saxenhausen (Jean). The courtyard in front of the entrance to the Musée des Beaux-Arts et de la Dentelle bears their names in honour of their memory.
