Description
David Thorpe was born in the UK in 1972, and moved to Treignac in 2023 to initiate a collaboration with Treignac Projet. An artist with a strong international presence, he has exhibited widely in Europe and the United States, developing a practice combining drawing, collage, sculpture and installation. After more than ten years in Berlin, where he collaborated with several galleries, his work evolves in a dynamic of continuous transformation. Since arriving in Treignac, he has been developing a long-term, no-budget film project based on collaboration, mutual aid and shared production, of which the exhibition at Les Bains-Douches is a milestone.
His work revolves around notions of autonomy, intellectual concentration and independence, and unfolds an imaginary cosmos governed by its own laws. Through drawing, sculpture and installation, he develops utopian spaces and architectural structures where construction and deconstruction coexist. Geometric and ornamental structures occupy a central place, transcending their decorative function to become vectors of meaning, in a process of continuous transformation.
Opening May 29, 6.30pm.
