This family project had its roots in the United States, when Basile, the youngest of the Terrier siblings, went off to study at a business school in North Carolina in 2016. The young man from Alençon fell under the spell of a “brew pub” (a pub where the beer is brewed on the premises) and developed a keen interest and a real taste for the craft beer he discovered at that time.
The idea of opening his own brew pub germinated in his mind… He discussed it regularly with his brother and his mother, who agreed with the project. His brother Axel was also experimenting with the art of brewing beer. Basile returned to France and went to work in Paris at the BAPBAP craft brewery. He stayed there for 3 years.
On the strength of this enriching and highly formative experience, he decided it was finally time to devote himself entirely to opening his own brewery!
In 2020, the family found the ideal location in the heart of Alençon. The brew pub “Le Bercail” opened its doors at the end of 2022. Since then, the place has been packed. The menu is creative and constantly being renewed, and the loyal clientele of regulars enjoy craft beers with different tastes, made using quality raw materials and produced on site, which can’t be found anywhere else in the old Cité des Ducs.
The Terrier family have succeeded in their gamble: democratising craft beer and creating a convivial venue. The little extra: a very pleasant terrace and live concerts all year round for a guaranteed festive atmosphere!
