Agnès Poittevin and Olivier Laigre

Owner of "Le gîte de Madame Berthemet

Their story began in the 80s when Olivier met Agnès in Cherbourg, during their studies in electronics. Originally from Alençon, Olivier wanted to return to his home town. In 1992, the couple set up a company selling and repairing televisions and opened a shop in the Courteille district. Shortly afterwards, Olivier and Agnès moved into a house in Écouves, next to a masonry business whose owners lived in a pretty old house built on the same plot of land.

The plans were drawn up by the famous Alençon architect Albert Mezen, and Madame Louise Berthemet had it built in 1909. Four years ago, Olivier and Agnès had the opportunity to buy this house and the neighbouring warehouse. After careful consideration, they and their 3 sons decided to set up a family business and acquire this unique property. A great deal of work followed, and their gîte project finally saw the light of day in May 2023…

Another successful adventure! The couple are enthusiastic, and don’t spare any small attentions: “Before our guests arrive, we always leave a personal welcome, a bouquet of flowers, chocolates, local produce… We really enjoy meeting new people, and our loyal customers keep coming back”.

Whether it’s a family reunion, a weekend away with friends or a holiday in the countryside, Madame Berthemet’s house is the ideal place to relax and enjoy yourself!
